Garage is the best place to dump all the storage we ever carry from ages, but we never care to organize it. Lets spare a weekend in building this storage shelving unit so that we can better organize our storage. All it takes is some 2×4’s, tools and screws.Shall we get started!!
Materials needed:
1. 2x4x8’s. Depending on your dimensions. It took around 46 for me. (We picked few 2×4’s from the near by construction site scrap)
2. Self tapping screws – 2 1/2″ – around 175 count.
Tools needed:
1. Cutting saw.
2. Screw gun.
STEP 1: DRAW THE PLAN
Make sure you measure your garage and decide how big of a shelf you need and draw a blue print with dimensions. I made a 16 ft wide shelf and below measurements are for it. If you want to increase/decrease the width/ height, you need to change the dimensions accordingly.
Below image has the dimensions for the pillars.
STEP 2: CUT THE LUMBAR
Cut the Lumbar for the pillars as per the blueprint with either a machine circular saw or a hand saw.

STEP 3: MAKE PILLARS
Pick the pieces that you have cut to make the standing pillars and place the horizontal pieces against 78″ lumbar and screw them at 90 degrees with self tapping screws as shown in the below image.

The screwed pillars should look something like these in the below images.
STEP 4: SCREW THE SHELVES
First place the pillars against the wall and make sure they are all standing straight and sturdy. Now lay down the pillars and first screw the bottom shelf with at least 2 rows of 2x4x8 lumbar from end to end. Now stand up the whole set with help of another person. Now start screwing the 2×4 lumbar to the horizontal pillar beams. The first shelf should look like the below image.
