Feature walls are mostly focused on just a painted wall, or a wallpaper wall or a gallery wall. Well, our DIYs dont have to be limited to just those. We can do a lot with little wood work and a little of painting and add some mixed media like brass and stuff and make some unique featured walls.
There is one such kind of a unique wall project the desidiy team did in collaboration with Krishiarts. If you guys have been following my painting works recently, you must have already been introduced to Krishiarts. Krish is a wonderful painter and great DIYer. He does mind blowing portraits and just does some real magic with colors. You should surely checkout his insta feed 🙂
Things you need for this project:
- 8ft by 5ft plywood sheet – you can have this cut from homedepot and get it.
- BEHR – Tropical sea color wall paint on eggshell finish.
- Wall paint roller
- Another plywood sheet of 24ft width and 5ft height – precut from homedepot again.
- small Pieces of cut wood for floating shelves.
- Brass lotus candle holders and some brass hanging diyas. Check out my amazon link for this.
- Some acrylic pens or paint for kalamkari painting.
- Stain color of your choice _ choose Honey Oak.
The very first thing I did before we start on anything is to finalize the design and put up a sketch on how you want it look like.
Now Start by coloring the 8 by 5 plywood sheet with the choice of your color. The choose my favorite turquoise shade, and its the BEHR Tropical sea as many of you asked me about that shade. My lil helper here helping us with painting the plywood sheet.
Once you are done painting the sheet. Start marking with a chalkpiece as in where exactly you need the painting and may be make a rough sketch of it or trace it.
we just colored the right side of the panel because we never anyways going to add a wood panel to the left.
Once we are done with the Rama painting, we had to figure the font for the shloka. I couldn’t find really artistic fonts for telugu script online. So I made an attempt to create my own :P. Looks awful here.
We wanted to highlight Sri Rama letters in the script. We first made marking with chalk again and my lovely artist made his magic and made it look beautiful with his paints. And I added some highlights with gold acrylic. Just love the way it turned.
Now is the fun part of adding embellishments. So we took another sheet of plywood and stained it and stick it to the other end of the wood with wood glue.
Put up the clamps so that it holds it tight until its fixed. Once its dried. Screw in from behind.
Now cut small pieces of wood for floating shelves and make marking as in where exactly you need the shelves to be placed and screw them from behind.
This is how they look after you fix the floating shelves.
Now you can hot glue the brass candle holders onto these shelves.
We have also prepared a trim around the entire frame to make it look complete. Just get some 1 by 2 with the correct measurement of the entire frame around and stain them.
And this is how it looks after the final installation.

Any thoughts on how to trace the painting onto the board?
May be you can print it as banner and trace it
This was hand painted on the board. You can try getting a banner print and trace it.
Thank you for the instructions.. It looks so serene and beautiful. I have question: how have you hung it on the wall?
We screwed it to the wall
Wish such stencil is available for a non artistic person like me
