Creating a gallery wall is a simple way to bring style and personality to any room — no painting or wallpapering required. All you need is a hammer, some frame hooks and a collection of your favorite art.
But arranging that collection can be intimidating when you’re confronting a blank wall. To help you make a statement — rather than a haphazard jumble. To me, the most inspiring walls are those that mix a variety of artworks representing a range of media, from photographs to drawings and paintings, mixed in with personal mementos like children’s artwork or souvenirs from one’s travels or some antique collection that you have collected, or just absolutely anything that you would love to hang. Just the key is “MIX IT UP”
What You Need
- Artwork
- Pencil
- Hammer
- Nails or picture hangers
- Ruler or measuring tape
- Leveler
- Double-sided adhesive tape, such as Command strips, or adhesive hook-and-loop tape, such as Velcro
Step1: Collect the items
Start by gathering an assortment of wall art. Choose items that go together but aren’t matchy-matchy. I choose to pick some wall decor items that talk about our story and show signs of love. I wanted to add some greenery on the wall so picked a hanging planter bowl from amazon.
You can use your own creativity in curating things on your wall.
Step2: Lay them on ground
Before you start making holes on your walls, lay all your frames and wall decor you choose on the ground and figure out the best arrangement you want to do.
Tip: Start from Center usually with the largest piece, and work out from there to keep it balanced. Its easy to figure out the spacing this way
I had quite a few large frames, so first placed all my large frames on the floor and then started placing the smaller ones around it.
Step3: Mark on your wall
Take a pencil and try replicating your floor layout on the wall and mark the placement with a pencil
Step4: Start Hammering
Start from the middle and place your largest in the middle. I hung up all my large frames first.
Tip: Every so often, take a few steps back and view your wall from another area in the room.
If you have two hanging spots for a frame, use leveler to keep your holes aligned at the same level.
You are done with your gallery wall and this is how beautiful it looks when it is done.
