Peacock Daybed

I saw a beautiful daybed in the world market, I so fell  in love with it.  But I felt the white was not bringing in the right character out of it,  I wanted to add some color to  it. Also, my living room has the rest of my furniture in neutrals, so decided to paint this adorable piece.

Whitewash Carved Zarah Daybed

All you need for this project is

  • Annie Sloan Chalk paints (florence and Napoleonic blue)
  • Paint brush
  • Sanding block
  • Minwax PolyAcrylic coat

Step 1: Sanding the furniture

So to start off with I sanded down the furniture to remove the top coat on the piece. Then, I cleaned the entire piece with denatured alcohol to remove all the dust.

Step 2: Painting

Now, I started off painting the daybed with Annie Sloan Florence chalk paint. I did two coats of Florence to have entire coverage.

I was aiming to have peacock colors on my daybed. So I thought I will try two shades of colors. So after painting the bed with Florence, I painted it with Napoleonic blue wherever I had intricate carvings to highlight them.

Then I dry brushed the carvings with more of Florence to get the double shading.

When two colors are put together they sing! And I can hear the melody of this beautiful double shaded peacock daybed thanking me to have colored it 🙂

Step 3: Sealing

Finally, I sealed the daybed with 2 coats of Minwax polyacrylic coat.

After decking up the daybed with lots of colorful pillows it turned out as I dreamt it to be.
