When it comes to glass table top furniture, there is almost nothing you can do to give it a new look. But you know what I wont let you run out of options :), we can try out some gold foil over it.
Lets checkout this interesting project to turn any boring pain glass into an amazing piece of art. All the supplies you need are:
- A nice stencil
- gold foil – I bough this one from amazon.
- Gold foil adhesive
- Quite some patience to deal with the gold foil 😛
So this is the old elephant glass side table that I found on facebook marketplace.
I actually forgot to take pictures from the beginning, but these pictures should manage to talk through the process.
Step1: Attach the stencil over to the glass. I chose to do a mandala, so I first figured the center of the round glass table by drawing two diameters (learnings from class 5 i guess :)). Pardon me for not having a picture of this. But I am sure you can figure the center of any table with your basic math skills.
Step2: Apply the adhesive with a brush. This is the key step in the process to make sure that the adhesive does not leak through the crevices of the stencil. This will make the gold foil stick in inauspicious locations and it will take forever for you to clean them up. The trick here is take very little quantities on your brush and just do some dry brushing over the stencil.
Step3: Once the adhesive is on, wait for atleast 10 mins before you stick the gold foil on. We need to wait until the adhesive becomes sticky, some adhesives take half hour to dry and become sticky. This make the foil adhere smoothly on the surface.
Take one sheet at a time and place it on the location where adhesive is applied.
Take a sponge brush and dab on the foil to make it stick well.
As you can see you might end up having some parts not having the gold foil adhered. Dont panic! just apply some adhesive and repeat the steps.
Once the complete stencil is covered. Wait for sometime and remove the stencil.
Now its time to clean up some mess. I initially applied a lot of adhesive which caused a little leakage below the stencil, so do make sure you follow all my instructions on Step2. Lesser the better with adhesive.
I just took some nail polish remover and dabbed in places which had excessive gold foil.
Did some final clean up with an ear bud to get more perfect look.
Tadaaan!!! the gold table is all set to style.
I have seen some ideas over web where they have made the glass black and added the gold stencil, I really loved that idea as well, but since my base was a huge white elephant, I stick it keeping it plain. Would definitely try this next time!!
So this is how it looks after its done.
