Golu is the festive display of dolls and figurines in South India during the autumn festive season, particularly around the multiday Navaratri. These golu steps can be used in any festive décor, I have used them or my Varalakshmi ammavaru decoration.
Golu steps are pretty simple to make if we plan it ahead of time and set it up. I am here to show you how you can create simple golu steps all by yourself which is very easy to make and even store it after use.
Materials used:
I got the materials required for the steps from Home depot and Lowes.
- Automatic driller to screw in the nails
- Wood board 2×12 (2 nos.)
- Wood board 2×4 (4 nos.) – this is for the height, get them precut at home depot based on the height you need.
- Deck steps (2 nos.) – I have taken a 3 step piece, there will be more choices to pick.
- Wooden planks (3 nos.)
Steps:
Step1: I am using prebuilt deck steps to make these golu steps.
Step2: Attach legs – I have used 2by 4s and have them cut in home depot based on the height you want. Screw these legs to all 4 ends of the deck steps.
Step3: Attach two ends – Now we connect both the ends of the deck steps by screwing on the legs attached and add a horizontal support beam for left and right side steps as shown in the video.
Step4: Add the top planks – Now I have taken 2 by 12 and make them sit on the steps, we dont need to screw these as they will stay strong.
For after use storage, we just have to unscrew and store them.
Here’s a detailed video walking through all the steps mentioned above.
