The Hindu festival in the name of of Varalaksmi Ammavaru is prominent in the states of Karnataka, Andhrapradesh, Telangana and Tamilnadu. This auspicious day falls on the second friday or the friday before the full moon day in the beginning in late july.
On this special occasion women worship Goddess Lakshmi by decorating the deity in saree, flowers and jewelry offering sweets and fruits. They observe Vrata (Fasting) for Her blessings in the form of well being of their families. Decorating Ammavaru every year is quite an interesting work to come up with new designs every time and takes patience to set it up.
