Deity accessory collection is quite unique and bhujalu or Tomala is one of them. Adding tomala gives such elegant look to your ammavaru decor and gives wide shoulder posture to the sitting ammavaru. I have been selling bhujalu in my stores but I would love to create something different than the usual bhujalu that we get.
For this year’s ammavaru, I wanted to try a different color combination and thought of creating my own set of bhujalu which suits my color combination.
So lets get started with the process…
Materials needed:
- Silk cloth – Dupion or raw silk
- Pillow stuffed filling
- No sew hem
- Gold rhinestone sheet – 2pcs
- pearl string
- Pearl silver appliques – 2 pack
- hot glue gun
- Classical dance jwellery set
Step1: Cut the fabric and sew with no sew
Cut the fabric as per the design, I just randomly sketched bhujalu design and you either sew the fabric or you can apply no sew hem and iron it together. Make sure to leave an opening to stuff some filler.
Step2: Stuff the filler
Stuff the pillow filler and sew the opening up. Dont worry about imperfections since we are going to add a lot of embellishments, its not going to show up.
Step3: Glue the rhinestone sheet
Cut the rhinestone sheet into a rectangular sheet that covers all edges of the bhujalu and first hot glue (self adhesive may not be as strong) the sheet to the bhujalu.
Step4: Cut to size
Now cut the rhinestone sheet to the size of the bhujalu after gluing. This will get you better shape.
Step5: Add middle embellishments
Partition the bhujalu into 3 parts and add embellishments to the middle part. I have used 2 baju bands and a suryavanka to attach them. you can get these from the dancers jwellery sets.
Step6: Add pearl strings
Take pearl string and start hot gluing it to the bhujalu to make cross squares
Step7: Add button appliques
Now add rhinestone button appliques to the squares.
New bhujalu are all set to adorn your ammavaru this year
