If you’ve watched Instant Dream Home on Netflix, you would know that there were times when you wondered if it was possible to pull off the insane transformations in a short time frame. Well, we have just accomplished such a transformation ourselves. If you have been following me, you know that we were in the middle of renovating our master bedroom. However, we had to temporarily put that on hold and switch gears to make over the guest bedroom closet because my parents were visiting us.
So, we decided to challenge ourselves and complete the closet makeover within a single day. It was a non-stop sprint from beginning to end, with Praneel and me working hand in hand as a team. We relayed back and forth, burned the midnight oil, and successfully pulled it off. Our hard work paid off when we saw the smiles on my parents’ faces as the boys revealed the new closet to their grandparents.
Now, let me tell you what went into the closet makeover.
- We began by removing the existing shelving frame and the clips that held it in place. While removing the shelving was easy, it required some effort to pull out the clips.
- Next, we filled the holes with Fast and Final spackling.
- Praneel then took care of replacing the electrical wiring. It was his first time doing it, and he nailed it.
- After that, we tackled the task of removing the existing carpet. Once the carpet was ripped off the floor, we then had to remove the frame with nails that held it down.
- We then proceeded to lay down the underlayment, which was a relatively quick process.
- Following that, we installed the laminate flooring on top of the underlayment. Here’s a tip: we used the Brutus Laminate Floor cutter, which made cutting the laminate flooring an easy task.
- Next, we put up the wallpaper as the background for the closet.
- Finally, we started assembling the Audral shelving unit. We found the new upgrades to this unit quite nice, and installing the shelves was a breeze since they required no nails.
- To bring it all together, we added a few finishing touches.
Here’s the final look of the closet.
