Summer is here and its time to spruce up the backyard!! Whether you’re working with a large backyard space or a smaller front yard area, some of the best lawn décor can be up scaled from items you can find around your own home.

One of the most versatile items you can use in your yard are used tires. These wonderful rings of rubber can be painted and decorated to create unique pieces in your garden. You would have probably thrown those old tires anyways, so why not reuse them to create something beautiful?

Not only are you recycling, but this would be a fun project for the whole family to be involved in. Once you start painting and decorating your tire planters, your creativity will soar and the possibilities will be endless! Check out the post on how you can just some basic things to make it look like a classy planter.

Things you need:

  • 1 old tire
  • 1 – 2×4 board cut to 3 – 12″ long pieces with 15 degree angles at each end. The long side and short side of the angles should measure 12″.
  • weatherproof stain
  • 2″ pocket hole screws
  • 2″ bolts and nuts
  • 3/4″ plywood or end of wood spool
  • jigsaw

I have added all the DIY power tools in my amazon storefront

Step1: Cut 2 by 4

Place 15 degree angle on your saw and cut the 2 by 4 on that angle by two edges.

Make sure the angles are facing outward and inward as shown below.

Step2 : Plywood cutting.

Each tyre rounding measures different, so measure the diamter of the opening and just add around 1 to 2 inches for screwing and cut the circle with that diameter.

Step3: Stain them

This step is quite simple. Just use some outdoor weatherproof stain on these. We had some leftover stain from our deck, so we used the same.

Step 4: Screw the plywood

Step 5: Mark the center of the tyre and the zones where you should place your legs

Step 6: Screw the legs

Make sure the angles are placed correctly and the tyre is balanced cirrectly before you screw them.

And do apply wood flue for stronger bond.

Step 7 : Paint

Paint the tyre with your favourite color 😍

Step 8: Fill in some dirt and add your choice of plants. Your planter is ready!!
