Ammavaru Lotus DIY

Adorn your Lakshmi with this beautiful lotus this festive season!!! Either its Lakshmi pooja, Ganesh chathurthi, or Diwali, create this huge lotus to have your idol seated. This detailed tutorial is created for you to craft your own lotus flower. You can also create a smaller version of it by replacing the wood base with Styrofoam base.

Things you need for the project:

Pink color cardstock paper (got it from dollar tree)
green color project paper (got it from dollar tree)
Round wood for the base of the flower ( https://www.lowes.com/pd/Common-1-in-x-24-in-x-2-ft-Actual-1-in-x-24-in-x-2-ft-Radius-Edge-Spruce-Pine-Fir-Board/1000514479 )
Hot glue
Scissors

I used solid wood for the base of the flower as I was planning to repurpose this for the cradle ceremony of my little one and have this as his cradle. You can use dollar tree foam board and cut it round in the size you want to just use it for placing the idol in it.
Let’s get started with the procedure

Step1: Cutting the green leaves
Take the paper, fold it in half(here you should just hold the paper in half and not press the paper to fold it) with a chalk/pencil draw a curve from the top to bottom of the paper as seen in the pic below. And cut it in the shape. Make sure you have a flat base at the bottom.

Now take this shape and trace it onto the next ones to cut more leaves.

Step2: Place the leaves on the floor and make sure you cover your entire round base

place the round base on top of the leaves and adjust your placement of leaves. Once you have the placement correct, remove the round base, apply glue to the leaves and place the round base on the glue. Press it firmly.

Step3: Cutting the petals for the flowers

Cut the petals similar to how we did the leaves with a flat base.

Once we have all the petals ready, roll the end of the petal. This will give us a petal effect. For the 1st circle petals, roll inside and for the later petals, roll outside
