DIY Addict

@Inspireddecorart, this is her Instagram handle and she calls herself a DIY Addict. And its absolutely true that “DIY is an addiction”. Once you start building things you want to build everything and anything. This is what exactly happened with Thenmozhi’s couple and they started building their own furniture pieces all over the house.

Its kind of tough to showcase all of their DIYs, but will walk you through some masterpieces. This console that you can see is built from scratch arranging the furniture legs against a wood beam and built the top over it. I love the way furniture legs have been used to give that ethnic furniture look. And the color combination gave such an uplift to the entire piece.

Look at these sunshine pieces. The bench is a beautiful addition as a TV console with lovely mandala designs hand painted on it. And the cart planter made from 2 by 4s adds so much beauty to any corner

These lovely cabinets that you see are all made from scratch. Yes you heard me right all made from scratch using plywood and 2 by 4s. I love the way these pieces are perfectly color coordinated.

Walking into such a beautiful sunroom is such a delight isn’t it. And for the fact that the furniture pieces that you see in here are all handmade too, makes it look even more fabulous. The beautiful daybed and the lovely coffee table add so much character to the entire room.

Thenmozhi’s not only has her hands on DIYs, she also has equally beautiful DIY decor elements in her home. The beautiful recycled clock frames, the door, the handpainted mirror frame. All these pieces are such lovely masterpieces she created around her home that elevated the beauty so gracefully.

Lets have Thenmozhi share her one of the best projects today with us, the live edge console table.

  • Find a good lumber yard near your home and choose the wood you would like to purchase. If you have the relevant tools to cut it at home you can purchase and cut them later OR request the people in lumber yard to cut them to the desired size and shape
  • Tools needed – Knife, Brush, Hand Sander, Dremel (remove sand, dirt or any dead bark), Sander, Wood filler
  • Use the brush and dremel to remove any any dead or rotten wood/bark
  • Sand the wood to the desire smoothness. We started of sanding with hand first and then with the electric sander. Recommended (always wear a mask while sanding as there will be dust particles) Use different sand papers – P80, 120 and  220 . Sanding will take some time depending on the smoothness you want.
  • As you sand ensure all rotten barks are removed and shape them as needed with the knife and clean them with the brush
  • Use wood filler to strengthen any knots which might look weak as you sand. Once the wood filler is dried up please sand them again.
  • Repeat the process until you are satisfied with the wooden piece
  • Once completely sanded choose the color of stain and apply a coat. Leave the stain to dry up for 24 hours or as described. Apply second coat. You might add more coats depending on the wood and how the stain is being absorbed. It varies based on the wood you choose
  • Apply poly to finish of the final look on the wood
  • Spray paint the pipes the the color you want. Please paint the legs first before you attach. If you are looking for an industrial look you can always choose to leave the pipes as is. Here is an article on lowes website for instructions on how to assemble the pipes https://www.lowes.com/n/how-to/pipe-leg-coffee-table
  • Your console is done and all set for styling
