DIY lotus backdrop

The look of fresh flower backdrop decor is so refreshing and I totally miss the lovely flower backdrops that are coming up on weddings and events in India these days.

And for people outside India, to get a fullyblown flower backdrop look it would break the bank for sure. So I figured there is a cheat trick to get the look with artificial flowers that dont look too artificial.

I found these mini foam roses on amazon and just ordered 2 packs to check them out.

I am so amazed by the quality look and the ease with which u can handle these bunches. All u need us these little bunches and a cello tape to secure them. And I decided to try a mini version of flower backdrop for my varalakshmi pooja.

Things you need for this backdrop

  • Insulation sheet from homedepot/lowes. For folks in India you can use large thermacol sheets.
  • 2 bottles of gold spray paint
  • Mini foam roses – I used 2 packs to make one medium sized lotus, so estimate based on your design. And these are available on India amazon too.
  • Some acrylic colors
  • Push pins to secure the sheet to the wall.

The best part in this project is the total.cost of the project does not exceed 50$ (depending on the qty of roses u use).

Once you have all the things ready, start by painting the insulation sheet with gold spray paint on the side where you have the silver lining.

Note: DO NOT RIP OFF ANY LAYERS FROM THE INSULATION SHEET.

This step is important because the foam might get burned with the spray paint if you take off the silver lining.

It might take a couple of coats for full coverage.

Once the sheet is painted with gold, I have fixed it to the wall using round head pins.

Now start marking your design with a washable marker so that it can be wiped away easily.

Now take your mini rose bunches and start securing them cello tape on the design you choose.

And thats how simple it is. Once you are done taping them close to each other, adjust them for a tight fit and you are all set.
