Lakshmi ammavaru crowns can be done in a lot of different ways. They are quite satisfying to make, and they make standout pieces. You can use your own creativity and they come together with the simplest of materials: a bun, fabric, pearls, stones, flowers. I am going to showcase a couple of ideas that I have tried for inspiration.
I also have DIY kits and different crowns in my store.
Pearl Crown:
Pearl crown is one of the most popular ones from my DIY kits. It is so classy and beautiful. It comes together quite easily too. Click to see detailed instructions for making this crown.
Cascaded crown
This is the regular deity jewelry crown that we get in most deity jewelry stores. We have just added a choker necklace and Thurai (pagdi jewelry) to look like a cascaded crown with multiple levels. This is quite easy one to try.
Fabric Crown
Fabrics are an easy base for crown. You can repurpose old sarees or unused blouse pieces. I’ve used Banarasi fabric for the crown which became a big hit and have added that to my product list and also have DIY KITS in my store. You can also see detailed instructions for making your own crown.
My sister tried wrapping a zardozi work belt that she has picked for a saree as the crown, and it turned out amazing.
Andaal Koppu
Both me and my sister created this style of koppu for ammavaru. I have a detailed tutorial in my blog post. Here are our ammavaru with this crown.
Rhinestone crown:
In the year 2020, I created my own stone crown using rhinestones and stone trim and hot glued it to a plastic glass wrapped in fabric. I will soon be creating a video with clear instructions on how to create this crown I really love the way it turned out.
