I found these antique chairs in facebook marketplace and caught my eye for a repurpose project.
Well you must be thinking its a tough job to fix it. Guess what if you have donr my basic upholstery 101 project of upholstered ikea foot stool then tgis is a piece of cake.
All you need for this project
- Chalkpaint for the chair
- Plywood for seat
- Cushion foam
- Fabric for upholstery
- Staple gun
Step1 – Ripping
Start by ripping off the broken cane seat. This is how it looks after ripping the cane off.
Step2 – Paint, Distress and wax
I wanted to do double shading on this so painted with an Anniesloan french blue first and then topped it with my selfmade chalkpaint by just mixing annisloan old white to a regular paint.
After some light distressing and applying dark wax you can see the color underneath.
Step3 – Mark up
Take a paper and place it on the cane seat and mark the seat shape or round based on the cane holes.
Cut out the paper and do the marking on plywood.
Step4 – Upholster
Please refer to my upholstery 101 project for instructions.
Step 5 – Screw the seat
The title said it…screw in the upholstered seat and you are all set!!!
Hi Divya! I was looking for ideas to paint the wall with some stenciling and the one in the background with the mandala design caught my eye. It is really beautiiful. Would u please share details on that. Thank u!!
hi Vasavi. Thats actually a wall decal that I got from etsy. You just have to stick it to the wall its that simple.
Love how it turned out! Do you suggest applying wax after chalk painting? Also would love to know where you got the fabric from, it’s gorgeous color!
hi Adelia, Thank you so much for dropping in your comments. Yes you can apply wax after painting it with chalk paint. And I got the fabric from India, you may find it in etsy too…look for Raw silk or dupion silk.
