Charming DIY nook with Ikea drawer hack

Bedroom renovation series – Part 3

My master bedroom is gradually coming together, and we’ve tackled the major elements like the ceiling and the accent wall. Today, I’m excited to share how we transformed a small corner into a cozy nook. Initially, we wanted to hang a mirror there, but we decided to get creative and turn it into something special by adding slats and a cleverly hacked Ikea drawer.

Small details can truly add character and bring joy to a space. By giving them a little love and attention, they can shine and make a significant impact.

DIY Instructions

  • First, we used plywood to create a sturdy backing for the mirror.
  • Next, we add extra plywood supports to ensure the mirror was level and well-supported.
  • Then we built a frame with plywood for the Ikea drawer to add as a floating drawer against the mirror.
  • We screwed the drawer frame to the supports we have added next to the mirror.
  • We added a plywood frame on top and painted it to match the drawer to give a cohesive look. We cut the top in L shape to sit in the groove and covers our supports and get flushed with the mirror.
  • Lastly, added the slats around the mirror and added lighting.
