My experience as Design Influencer at High Point Market 2023

This year, I participated in the High Point Market as one of the 10 influencers.

I was excited about being on this tour, but nothing prepared me for the experience. It was a whirlwind whistle-stop tour with a sensory overload of some of the finest work. What struck me the most was that as designers, we do spend a lot of time researching online stores, and while it’s effective, meeting the designers and gaining insights into their work is irreplaceable. The High Point Market also introduced us to vendors who exclusively operate through trade accounts, not directly with consumers. Tapping into these exclusive resources was my most significant takeaway. Amidst the vast array of displays, I found myself drawn to designs that resonated with my aesthetic. It was heartwarming to discover designs that evoked a sense of nostalgia of India. Read on to see what caught my eye.

Lights

I encountered nearly every imaginable shape, including some genuinely unique and intriguing pieces. The range spanned from fundamental geometric forms to fluid, organic shapes, leaving me in awe of the diversity. Lighting plays a pivotal role in lifestyle and aesthetics, and these pieces are exceptionally beautiful. These are showrooms that had the most stunning lightning pieces.

Accents & Decor

Another key aspect of creating a cohesive and stylish space is the inclusion of accents and decorative elements. If you’re familiar with my projects, you’ll know that I place a strong emphasis on styling. Therefore, it was only natural for me to be attracted to decor pieces, and once again, I found myself brimming with ideas. I noticed a significant use of organic materials, a harmonious blend of asymmetry and geometry, and the interplay of shapes and materials that left a lasting impression.

During our visit, we had the chance to admire artworks that were truly delightful. My personal inclination led me to the resin art pieces, a medium I’ve explored myself. Few things can enhance a design like a captivating piece of artwork that serves as a focal point.

We also had the pleasure of meeting vendors who excelled in the realm of rugs. Furthermore, we encountered a brand that crafts quilts by repurposing leftover fabric. This instantly reminded me of home, where we repurpose sarees to create the coziest quilts.

Furniture

Last but certainly not least, the diversity of furniture on display was unbelievable. From exquisitely carved pieces to multifunctional pieces there was an overwhelming array of options. The attention to detail was extraordinary, and the materials ranged from leather to Crypton fabric, a valuable addition for homes seeking stress-free and spill-resistant solutions. We also encountered vendors who provided personalized touches to the smallest details. Saw a lot of marble and rattan pieces which are timeless.
