How to decorate your home for Diwali

Diwali, Festival 8 comments

Do you think decorating your home for Diwali is a tedious task? I can help you with it and can make it super easy for you.

Before we start going ahead on how to decorate, lets first figure the spaces where you can decorate your home. It could be places like:

  • a corner in the house beside your sofa in the living room or pooja room.
  • Coffee tables
  • side tables
  • entryway
  • on your deck or patio
  • front porch

Once you have decided the places you want to decorate, collect the things you need for decoration. This is dependent on what you have, decoration is like golu (bommala koluvu) collection. You collect things over some years and display them every year, so if you dont have much stuff done worry just bring out all the decor stuff you have and plan for things you can buy every year.

  • Bowls
  • candles
  • lamps
  • string lights
  • Any brass stuff you have
  • small and big stools, if you cant find any stool bring in some wood logs or may your side table
  • some plants and fresh flowers

Decorating does not need a lot of skill, you just need to know how you can mix things.

  • Start by creating some heights to place the candles and decor.
  • bring in your candles and try arranging them first on the stools or table that you have arranged. when you do this, make sure you are not overlapping things. Every item that you place must be seen.
  • Tip: I try to get some little things from the kitchen or get some wood blocks (place them in the back where they can be hidden) to bring small heights over the tables. Like you see the lamp over my side table has been kept on a favor box that I had which gets hidden in the front scenes.
  • Its always a good idea to add some decor along with candles like an idol, some decor objects you have.
  • Finish the final touch by adding some plants and fresh flowers.

COFFEE TABLES AND SIDE TABLES:

Now lets move to a side table or a coffee table. For any decor the thumb rule is to create heights and bring in some texture.

so here I added my stuff in a wooden tray, so you can do that to add a different touch to the decor. I have also added some strings in the background to get a subtle color effect.

ENTRYWAY:

LAST BUT NOT THE LEAST – GRANDEUR WELCOME ON DECK/PATIO/DRIVEWAY

Your driveway or your backyard/deck/patio would be the best place to setup a grandeur welcome decor if you are throwing a Diwali party at your home. Thats the place where you will have lot of space to add decor without having any trouble to your guests.

This year I setup a grand decor (inspite of not throwing a party :P….just for you guys <3) to showcase how you can use various ecofriendly natural elements that you can get from your backyard. I used banana leaves, all the flowers from my backyard from small to large and put up this lovely corner.

As you can see I just setup some heights and put up some urli’s I have gathered and some brass decor I already have (you must have seen the same brass decor in my previous posts).

I am going to flood you guys with the images of this grand corner :P. Hope you guys like it and please do share your pics of your setup
