My last india trip was a true treasure grab. There were so many antique finds that we wanted to keep for ourselves and my sister grabbed all she could to make a collage wall. This inspired her to makeover her entryway wall.
This is the before picture of the wall.
We wanted to get a village home look with kolam art on the wall. We started off painting the wall with bright olive green. Its the “sweet and sour” from BEHR
We picked eggshell sheen on ultra brand. Please check the below images for selection.
Please ignore the dull light image, this color looks much brighter during the day.
Like i mentioned earlier, we wanted to get the Indian village look so we decided to do a terracotta shelf that resembles the village walls. For this we got something called something called paint texture from homedepot and got a sample size terracotta interior paint.
All you need to do is mix the paint in paint texture and apply to the wood.
Fix the shelf and attach the frame hook to the wood on a side facing as shown in the picture below
Use wax to fill the hook holes in order to hold the shelf intact without tilting down.
This step is really important if you want the shelf to be sturdy enough to hold heavy stuff.
Find stud on the wall where you want to fix the shelf and add the screw. In case you can’t find the stud, screw in the drywall anchor before you add the screw to secure it better.
Now press the shelf against the screw and push left to secure the screw into the wax.
The floating shelf is all set for kolam decor. We hand painted the kolam design and haven’t used any stencil.
Please do checkout my YouTube video on this wall to see how we created the collage and how we repurposed an old bench with mangalgiri fabric to match the look.
Here is the full reveal of the wall🥰
