Garden swing

We do get a lot of garden swings up online and in stores. But I really love our traditional single plank swing we have back in India. And I have not found those online much. Well nevertheless, when I have such a lovely husband who can make such lovely things for me, why get something online :P. I have my customized version in it. I wanted to something rustic but yet colorful. So have decided to go with a rope bench swing.

Thing you need for this project:

• 1 by 12 planks, I used 2 pieces cut with 48 in length each.
• 2in Hitch ring with plate with 170 load limit. – 4 qty
• 2 screw eye hooks
• spray paint
• Rope for hanging – I took 15 ft. Depends on the height from where you are hanging it and how long you need. you need to measure it for your space and decide.
• Outdoor stain
• Polyacrylic
• wood glue

So if you already have some basic stuff like stain and poly and some left over spray paint, this project will be done in less than 50$

Giving pictures of the items I had picked, since it took sometime to research on what fixtures actually go with the weight and stuff. So sharing them with you so that you can buy these directly. Got all these from home depot, click on the image for the link to the product

Step1: Drill pocket hols for the two slats as shown in the pic.

Step2: Glue both the pieces together and screw them through the pocket holes. Make sure you are pushing through both the sides while screwing it to fix them tight.

Step3: We have attached additional wood pieces on the top to hold them strong.

Step4: Do some basic sanding over the edges and stain it

This is how it looks after staining it. I love it already 🙂

Step 5: So for this, I wanted to have a small step underneath just to add a little character. So I got these small legs from home-depot and added them along with a wood block to hold the screws intact.

Step6: I have painted the handles in gold, since I love gold 😛

Step6: Screw the Handles from the top. Make sure they are screwed a little away from the corner as shown below.

Step 7: Give a small predrilled hole and screw the hooks to your pergola or the wall, where you want to hang the swing over to. Make sure they are centered correctly and are screwed tight into the wood.

Step 8: Paint the rope!

Step 9: Tie them to the slats and make a V joint over the hook you screwed up on the wall.

Make sure your swing is leveled and adjust your rope and make a knot at the handles.

And you are all set to enjoy this lovely swing on your deck!!!
